I must admit, I made the cardinal sin of neglecting my blog, my friends, my subscribers, hell, the whole of my Internet business and it’s taught me a huge lesson……..

I have an offline cleaning business which literally just took off. Why?

I started focusing all of my efforts trying to make it a success and in turn started to give my clients the service they deserve and now expect. The problem is, I completely neglected my online business in doing so which was a huge mistake. I even got my eBay store closed down through bad customer service.

What’s The Lesson Learned?

Whether you’ve got an online or offline business, treat it as a business and in turn provide great customer service and value to your client.

This Is What I should Have Done!

1. First all explain to my readers and subscribers what was going on in my offline world. If you be yourself people will understand.

2. Diarise to do a blog post every Sunday or every month (time management). They wouldn’t need to be long blog posts just a little something informative.

3. Keep in touch and keep commenting on blogs that you like to read and share a common interest with.

4. Treat each reader or subscriber like a human being and not just a number or email on a subscriber list.

I’m happy to say that I have a team in place offline now and can now concentrate on providing real value to my subscribers again.

So, if I’ve got any advice to give, when times get hectic offline (the real world) or you’re going through a real rough patch. Try to stay in touch with your readers/subscribers by posting a blog post (if you have blog) about what’s going on. You don’t need to tell them the nitty gritty, just a simple breakdown and they’ll appreciate you for it.

Most importantly BE YOURSELF (sorry to shout . We’re fast becoming used to all the hype, product launch after product launch, and dodgy review after dodgy review. Be yourself and your readers will respect you for it.

Changes I’m Planning On Making!

1. Checking my email twice a day with reference to The 4-Hour work Week: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich. How many times do you check your email, only to find that you’re still making it nice and neat and replying for well over an hour.

2. Treating Internet marketing LIKE A BUSINESS. This means I plan to diariase, set up targets and work on 1 or 2 projects at a time MAX!

3. Use the Ready, Fire, Aim: Zero to $100 Million in No Time Flat approach. The best book I ever purchased. So many of us analyse the hell out of things. Most entrepreneurs/successful business people get idea and make it happen.

4. Start helping more people and giving real value.

Anyone else made these types of mistakes?

DesDrec.

Just a short post today about using links in ebooks. If you’re jut starting out with writing ebooks or you a pro . A bit of advice for you.

When you’re either linking via an affiliate link or to an external website. Link to your own web page first and then redirect.

Why? Ok let me explain……..

I started making this common and silly mistake of linking directly to other websites from my ebook and guess what, they’d either change their url, discontinue their url, change affiliate program, cancel affilaite program etc etc and the list goes on.

So now what I do is link to one of my own websites first and then redirect to the affiliate page or external webpage.

Here’s an example:

http://multimediacavern.com/gaborolahmembership.html

Now, the link above goes to gabor’s free membership site. If Gabor changed his site for any reason, or simply changed the destination url. I can easily change the details on this webpage in a matter of seconds. Thus, if I had a link from my ebook going to this page, everything would be up to date. Cool eh!

Not only does this give you complete control of your link. If the page you’re linking to changes or alters in some way, you can change the redirection to any destination you want. By doing this, your ebook will always be up to date even if external factors change.

For example:

Ebook => Link to your own webpage => Redirect or place hyperlink on that page =>

How did I learn this?

I made the silly mistake in creating a couple of ebooks on ebay and as you know, they change their policies and affilaite schemes like the wind.

By using this linking tactic. I don’t need to make changes to all of my ebooks and if anything changes outside of my control, I can either:

1. Change the link on my page to redirect to another affiliate scheme or alternative.

2. Redirect to a separate page that is not an affiliate scheme but related to the topic.

3. If there’s no alternative I can change the link on my page to redirect to either one of my own product webpages or even blog.

So if anything changes, my previous clients who purchased from me will always have an up to date ebook with up to date links.

What do you reckon?

As always feel free to leave a comment.

Do you actually want to monetize your blog?

I suppose this is the important question really. I mean, I’m not naive enough to think that everybody bloggong at the moment wants to make money out of their blog. Some people may even have really strong feelings about making money from their blogs and this is fine. If you think commercializing your blog is immoral and unethical, then simply don’t commercialize it. I must admit, if you’ve got this point of view, there’s really no point in reading the post since I’m gonna talk about the exact opposite

Now, there are a few ways you can go with this. You can either use direct sales or even adsense to make money, or you can choose one of my favourite three listed below……

1) lead generation; 2) affiliate marketing; and 3) newsletter subscriptions.

Let’s tackle the first one of lead generation; Let me just stress that there are hundreds of ways to make money on your blog, but I personally believe that this is the most promising of all the other methods. This is definitely true if the market your blog is in is related to anything financial. Mortgage and refinance leads are especially good, as they bring in tiered commissions. In essence, your first commission cheque will come when you generate the initial lead – which will simple entail getting someone to fill out a completely free form; this lead will earn you anywhere from $3 to $12. Now, this is where it gets interesting. If your lead goes to refinance her home with the company in question, you could earn a serious windfall of several hundreds or several thousands of dollars. Nice eh!

The next method we’ll look at is affiliate marketing. This is probably one of the more popular methods.

Affiliate marketing generally consists of either directly signing up as an affiliate through someones website – or signing up as an affiliate through a third party. You’ll then need to use your blog to market this person’s products for a share of the total price. Sounds easy eh! Well, before you engage in this form of monetization you need to first connect with your readers and build trust and form relationships.

If you sell information products from ClickBank or PayDotCom, you can earn as much as 75% per sale which is fantastic; however, if you sell physical products, such as tables and chairs from Link Share retailers, such as Wal Mart, you’ll earn a 7-15% commission at best. Which way you go is completely your choice. I always favour information products since they’re easy to market and the customer service issues (if there are any) are normally dealt with by the product creator and is completely hands off for you.

Newsletter subscriptions are the last on my short list. You can create a really decent opt-in page or a “squeeze page” on your blog, then offer a trial subscription to your newsletter as I’ve done on the right hand side. Now hopefully. If you provide quality content and promote your blog in the right way, you could end up with hundreds of subscribers over time and genuine followers who appreciate your work and take your advice.

As I’ve mentioned, there hundreds of other ways which I don’t have the time to write about in this blog that include selling advertising space directly and selling site memberships that allow visitors to access certain server-side tools.

I really hope this has helped, and as always I appreciate any comments you care to make.

To your online success,

P.s. Just in case you missed it. I recently did a review on Vegas Traffic Jam that points you in the right direction in making money from your blog.
