Let’s cut to the chase and tell you how to find the best things to sell on eBay.

1. Head over to eBay pulse. This delivers a snapshot of the eBay marketplace. eBay Pulse features top 10 popular searches, popular stores, popular products and those with highest price.

2. You’ll be presented with the “popular searches” on the left hand side. The top 10 in the UK is currently: U K, cars, UK, next, mobile phones, laptop, river island, wii games, topshop and xbox 360 games.

3. This list is OK, but far too generic. Click on the category drop down list, let’s choose “Cars, Motorcycles & Vehicles”. We’re presented with this list:

1. left hand drive lhd

2. cars

3. spares or repair

4. classic cars

5. mini

6. bmw

7. mercedes

8. range rover

9. vans

10. vauxhall corsa

Ebay Selling Tips

Notice what’s a position number 10 “Vauxhall Corsa”. You could do a search for cheap “Vauxhall Corsa’s” in your area, buy low and then place on eBay to sell high. Note: Best time to finish a car auction is Sunday afternoon, giving the buyer enough time to collect.

Unfortunately, 99% of people that read this article won’t follow this simple but effective strategy, which is a shame. Let’s hope you’ll be a little more daring! eBay classified ads are something of a revelation. So many people just don’t get it. This form of marketing is so powerful I think eBay should charge more for it.

Here’s how the smart marketers use eBay classified ads.

1. The first thing you do is research a hungry market. The way to find out where a hungry market is is to take a look at eBay pulse. This will tell you what’s selling by rank. No need to reinvent the wheel here, simply sell what’s already selling and you can’t go wrong.

2. Once you’ve found an item that already selling, find out if there are range of affiliate products to promote in this category. I’m guessing there probably is since it’s a sellers marketplace. Don’t know what an affiliate product is. This is a high priced product that someone else has either written or designed and they’re willing to share the profits with you. Sometimes the share can be as much as 75% on some products.

3. Purchase that product and write your own version of that product but don’t give away ALL of the details. This is going to be a little taster for your client. Don’t worry, it’ll only need to be around 10 – 15 pages in length.

4. Get an ebook cover designed. This is easy, simply type into Google “ebook cover designed” and you’ll find lots of people willing to do this for a small fee.

5. Make sure you have affiliate links dotted throughout the eBook or even at the end. This will lead to back-end sales of our affiliate product. Here’s the process broken down:

Customer sees your classified ad for free information on a hungry market. They click on the link which could be an email address, telephone number or my favourite and opt-in form (where people ask for information by inserting their name and email address).

They sign up and receive your the ebook you’ve just written on the killer “I’ve got to get my credit card out” topic and receive their free ebook via email. Now your content still needs to be of sufficient quality, just don’t reveal all. What you’re hoping for is the client will like what you’ve published and want even more information. That’s where the affiliate links within the ebook come into play.

They click on one of those links for more information, purchase our back-end product. Everybody’s happy. They’ve received the information they wanted in the first place and you’ve made a commission from selling an affiliate product off the the back of your initial free ebook. Not a bad strategy eh?

There are alot of people that would like to make a living online but just don’t know where to start. Find out what the best selling items on ebay are and you can’t go wrong.

If you’re looking to earn money online, then the best place to be is definitely eBay. I can’t think of a better website where your clients already have the credit cards out looking to spend money.

To find the best selling items on ebay you first:

1. Go over to eBay pulse. This is an ebay tool that allows you to find out which are the most searched for items in any given category. It also gives you the top eBay stores within each category so you can see what they’re selling and how they sell them.

2. Click on the “all category” drop down menu and that will give you a list of all the general categories in eBay. With this menu, we can drill down further to find some niche markets. For example, if you decided to go into the “photos and cameras” category you’ll find a brand name at #8 which is the Hasselblad brand. I’d never really heard of this brand before but it’s a niche market with credit cards at the ready. Their average selling price for cameras and assessories is around $1500.

3. Click on Hasselblad (or whichever category you choose) and that will take you over to the auction listings. Click on the “completed listings” tap on the left hand side panel. Note: You’ll need to be logged in to use this tool.

4. You’re now presented with a list of the sold items which in turn is a list of your best selling items within the niche category.

What Can You Do With This Info?

I apply a technique called the swipe and list method. It’s a little known technique that allows you to bid on items when there’s very little competition. The best way to do this is by bidding late at night or in the early hours of the morning. Yes, I know, this is probably out of the question for the majority of people and totally impractical. However, some of my clients have been known to get their items with discounts of 40-50% off the price it should have sold for.

To earn money online. Simply purchase these items, receive delivery and then re-list them and have the finishing times set for a Sunday evening. This is one of the busiest times for getting bids.

Now please don’t get me wrong here. I’ve got absolutely no problem with Turkeys apart from they can be a little dry.

Sorry, back to the point……………….You may or may not have a niche marketing website that just isn’t cutting it for you. Trust me I’ve been there, and every new product I produce for my eBay store is a crouch behind the sofa moment. Maybe your product isn’t producing any income for you at all or you haven’t actually figured out that what you are selling is, in fact, a niche market product. I’ve often found that you may need to do a little ‘tweaking’ and modify your strategies somewhat to get the site performing better. Now, I’m not saying this is easy, but it’s definitely possible!

Let me show you…………

Step #1: The famous entertainer and comedian Bill Cosby once said,

“I don’t know what the secret of success is, but I know the secret of failure and that was trying to please everybody.”

Mr Cosby was absolutely right. You see, you just can’t please everyone and you can’t sell to everyone either. It’s impossible. I’ve tried and failed more times that I care to write about here in this blog It’s possible that you may simply need to narrow you market, identify your product as a niche marketing product and advertise it accordingly.

I’m not gonna lie to you hear. I’m very new to this Internet marketing game. Heck, my offline business is window cleaning which is about as far as you can get from IM. I’ve made a lot of costly mistakes, but I’ve learned from each and every one of them. One of the most valuable things I’ve learned is to keep improving on something. Whether it’s a product, website, blog, whatever.

Step #2: Sure, Des saying that I need to improve is one thing. How do I actually go about doing this?

Ask Your Readers/Subscribers

Improving your existing product is easy (he says tongue in cheek). Start off with a blank piece of paper and think about all of the things you may have overlooked. Trust me, this is the most obvious solution of all. Better still, if you’ve got a blog, why not simply ask your readers what they think? They are after all the end users/readers of the product or service that you’re selling. What I’ve found is that there’s nobody that knows how a product can be improved better than the people who are using the product or reading your material, period!

Ask Questions on Other People’s Blogs

Like most Internet marketers out there, I regularly write to my subscribers, pointing them back to this blog and updating them on the new products that have just come out. I also take the time to ask them questions just to gauge whether I’m going in the right direction on a particular product or service I’m offering. Some have even asked for some type of mentoring, and though I’m flattered, my own personal journey’s just begun in the IM world. I’m still learning myself, and with the help of my subscribers we can kind of learn together. So to summarise, ask your subscribers (if you have any) questions, or simply reply with a question on certain blog post. It works a treat.

Step #3: Analyze the competition. This is one thing I love to do on eBay, though not as much lately with all the changes going on etc etc blah blah blah same old eBay. Simply take the time and effort to look at the product or service that your competitors are offering and analyze the hell out of it!. Do a mini SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weakness, Opportunity and Threats) on them.  Find out what your competition can’t, won’t or doesn’t really like to do and set about doing those very things yourself.

Step #4: Last but not least. Do you think you’re selling your product at the right price? Yep, believe it or not you’re allowed to raise the price of your product even though your head is telling you not to. If you’re unsure, try testing it for a few days, I’d say around 5-7 days just to judge the reaction from your clients. What I’ve found is that if you price a product too low it makes people think it won’t be any good in comparison with the competition, though pricing too high will discourage them from buying it. You’ll need to test and tweak this theory.

Why am I giving away an eBook that I currently sell on eBay and make money from? As the short bio on the left hand side of this blog says. I’ve learnt so much in such a short space of time about internet marketing and ebay selling, it’s time to give back.

Is the eBook a masterpiece?

With an ever growing crowd of people visiting ebay with wallets and purses at the ready, it’s never been a better time to get your business kick-started. You just need to be smart about it. I use various software on the market to determine just how popular items are and the exact search terms people use to find my listing. Knowing this is imperative if you want to list popular items that people will buy!

Of the business sellers out there. Very few actually make any money worth talking about. A good indicator is the amount of times you see their ebay account vanish only to resurface a couple of weeks later. (They failed to keep up with all of the fees)! What makes them different form the successful ebay marketers. Those sellers who do really well do so by listing the top selling items in hot, lucrative niches. If you’re not doing this you may as well pack up and go home. Blunt but true!

Selling the most popular items is the only way to go. Need ideas, try checking out ebay pulse. This is a ready made list of popular items and popular niches. Rest assured your competition is keeping a keen eye on this very list!

So what are the top selling items on eBay? These change almost daily since market trends change. At the time of writing the most popular products are gaming systems and videogame accessories. Two of the most popular systems are the Sony Playstation system and the Wii system. You may think these are purchased by youngsters only. Well, with some clever marketing from Nintendo they’ve targeted a wider audience. You know, the ones that actually control the purse strings. A much better strategy in my opinion. With each console sold they’re gonna need accessories that go along with the games, and manufacturers are coming up with more creative accessories all the time. One of the reasons this niche is so popular is that many game enthusiasts purchase every new accessory that becomes available. The chance of repeat purchases is high and the old adage of:

“selling to a previous client is far easier than a new client”

Well, not so much of an old adage, it’s a quote I just came up with. I believe it rings true though.

In summary. If you’re just starting out or are struggling to get your ebay business kick started. Sorry to state the obvious, but try selling things that are already selling well. With this you’ll get repeat business and loyal customers for years.

I personally sell information products. I’m pleasantly surprised at the amount of return custom I get from happy buyers. It’s currently running at 7.9% of total purchases. Now whether they’re just trying to boost their ebay feedback or genuinely want the products is anyone’s guess. Hey who cares. The bottom line is, sell, sell, sell, and more importantly list popular items.
