eBay classified ads are something of a revelation. So many people just don’t get it. This form of marketing is so powerful I think eBay should charge more for it.

Here’s how the smart marketers use eBay classified ads.

1. The first thing you do is research a hungry market. The way to find out where a hungry market is is to take a look at eBay pulse. This will tell you what’s selling by rank. No need to reinvent the wheel here, simply sell what’s already selling and you can’t go wrong.

2. Once you’ve found an item that already selling, find out if there are range of affiliate products to promote in this category. I’m guessing there probably is since it’s a sellers marketplace. Don’t know what an affiliate product is. This is a high priced product that someone else has either written or designed and they’re willing to share the profits with you. Sometimes the share can be as much as 75% on some products.

3. Purchase that product and write your own version of that product but don’t give away ALL of the details. This is going to be a little taster for your client. Don’t worry, it’ll only need to be around 10 – 15 pages in length.

4. Get an ebook cover designed. This is easy, simply type into Google “ebook cover designed” and you’ll find lots of people willing to do this for a small fee.

5. Make sure you have affiliate links dotted throughout the eBook or even at the end. This will lead to back-end sales of our affiliate product. Here’s the process broken down:

Customer sees your classified ad for free information on a hungry market. They click on the link which could be an email address, telephone number or my favourite and opt-in form (where people ask for information by inserting their name and email address).

They sign up and receive your the ebook you’ve just written on the killer “I’ve got to get my credit card out” topic and receive their free ebook via email. Now your content still needs to be of sufficient quality, just don’t reveal all. What you’re hoping for is the client will like what you’ve published and want even more information. That’s where the affiliate links within the ebook come into play.

They click on one of those links for more information, purchase our back-end product. Everybody’s happy. They’ve received the information they wanted in the first place and you’ve made a commission from selling an affiliate product off the the back of your initial free ebook. Not a bad strategy eh?

To be honest, I’m doing some background tests in my article and blog writing just to see if a well known theory works. So many of us take on this Internet marketing challenge and produce “me too” blogs and articles. I reckon that to truly stand out, you have be bold, do a little something different and stand out from the crowd.

Anyway, let’s get back to the blog post of affiliate marketing….

I’m not gonna lie and say my journey has been smooth, plain sailing and without a few hiccups cause I’d be lying. But I reckon that in order for us all to improve we have make mistakes and test the hell out of everything. Like children do I suppose. Well, affiliate marketing is no different.

Affiliate marketing has got to be the most easiest of ways to start and grow a successful business out there and when I say easy, once you’ve mastered all of the secret ninja tactics the guru’s won’t tell you you’re made. You’ve just got to find out what those tactics are.

The Bobby Basics

In this brief post I’m gonna walk through the bobby basics of affiliate marketing and how you can get started and get ahead.

The very first tool you need in your armoury is the ability to learn and be trained. This may seem a little obvious, but there’s so many of us out there that literally just skip from one million dollar project to the next without even finishing the first. I’ll hold my hands up and say I’m one of them. Learning the tricks of the trade is an important element of this and your willingness to recognise what will give you faster and unique advantages over your affiliate colleagues out there is paramount to your success.

I read a lot of Chris Rempel’s stuff (link at the bottom of post), and the reverse niche engineering idea he mentions literally changed my whole affiliate marketing business around. Copy and learn from the best and you won’t go far wrong. What’s this reverse engineering you ask? In a word a few words, copy and mimic the best affiliate marketers out there and promote the same products they promote in a similar fashion. Niche marketing is ok in a highly profitable niche, but if you’re promoting topics with ok traffic and an average affiliate payout you’re gonna waste a lot of valuable time with very little results. Been there got the t-shirt.

I’ve marketed different things from “devilled eggs” to “recipe ideas” and fell flat on my face. I’m not saying you can’t make money from these types of markets, I’m saying that there are much better markets to target with better profit margins.

The second thing you’ve got to have is the ability to invest true time and effort. Trust me, if this was easy, everybody would be doing it. I know I’ve tried and failed a few times, but now using the reverse engineering technique and using OCI’s (I’ll talk about this in another post later) I’m starting to see the fruits of my labour. This is going to take up a lot of your time. if you can afford to do so I’d outsource a lot of the mundane tasks. if you can’t afford to do that, then you’re gonna have to do it all yourself. I still do 80% of the tasks needed. Not because I want to, but to keep abreast of what’s new and different techniques you can use to grow the business.

Please take note:

Just because a search term has a lot of traffic doesn’t mean the people searching that term are going to buy anything. This is a hard lesson I learned late on and regret not finding out about this sooner. For example:

People searching for “authentic designer bag” and “authentic designer handbags” bring up completely different results. Both searches have similar traffic but out of the two keywords, one is 10X more profitable than the other. Powerful stuff eh! Within the last few weeks I’ve just realised just how much time I’ve been waisting on low value search terms.

The third thing you need is self-determination.  Not only are you up against individuals, you’re also up against large corporations, million dollar budgets and very complicated clever software. In order for you to survive and thrive you’ve got to be determined. The ability to motivate yourself is one of the hardest attributes out there. I’m willing to keep motivated and help motivate you if you’re willing. the first step is to actually join different groups and join in discussions. Ask questions and be prepared to give answers. If we help each other with interesting blog posts and giving lots of useful information we’ll contiually learn and keep up that self-determination.

Have Discipline And You’ll Succeed!

The fourth thing you’ve got to have is discipline.  You’ve got to treat this like a business. Take it seriously and you’ll reap the rewards. Set targets and follow them to the rule. Don’t set targets that are unachievable with very little affiliate marketing knowledge. Try and go slow and consider making $10 a day and then progress to $25 to $50 etc.

Stay Optimistic Please!

The fifth and last thing you’ve got to possess is optimism.  Negative attitudes will kill your business instantly. If you’re serious about affiliate marketing you’ve got to stay positive and be optimistic. Most of your loved ones won’t even know what “affiliate marketing” is and will be negative about the topis from the start. “The big unknown”. Don’t let this get you down, keep making smaill simple steps and you’ll start to see some results within a few weeks.

Over the next few weeks on my blog I’m going to show you just some of the little elements I’ve been testing and show you what I found works and what doesn’t. There’s obviously gonna be many factors involved. But I’m hoping it’ll be an honest review of my success and failures.

As some of you have already found out, the Internet marketing niche is among the most competitive and lucrative niches on the Internet to date. It’s crazy, there’s actually an Internet Marketing product that launches just about every working week and since the demand is so high for these types of products there’s one simple method to make some fast income. From the title you’ve probably guessed what it is, “Writing Internet Marketing Product Reviews” for these products and promoting them as an affiliate marketer.

If you’re new to all this, you’re probably wondering just how you get started. Well, make a cup of tea or coffee, strap yourself in cause I’m gonna lay out 4 simple steps to get started.

First things first you need to visit a JV forum like JV Notify Pro, and let me just add a little caution before you run off and do this. To be honest this should have been the first thing you do but hey ho not to worry. Actually take part in some of the discussions and DON’T sign up for everything going. You need to become a trusted member of these types of communities before they’ll allow you to become a joint venture partner. In other words, add true value to other people’s posts and don’t make it spammy.

The second step is research.

Yeah I know, you’re rolling your eyes at this point and literally breaking down the door to get the hell out of here. But if you’re looking to make some money on the net you’re gonna have to partake in some WORK (that dirty little word). Trust me, all of things you’ve read about making easy money on the web and that you can press that secret button and watch dollars roll in. Forget it.

Once you’ve done a little research and by this I mean actually purchase the product (unless you’re given one, which generally happens when you’ve got a decent list) try the theories out and actually use it over a period of time. If there’s something you’re actually unclear about or if you need extra info, simply fire off an email to the product owner. You can also ask her if she’s got any other material you’re able to use to help promote the product.

Now you’ve got some kind of familiarity with the product make an extensive list of the benefits the buyer will get from the product. Now these will need to be specific good and bad points a buyer will get from using the product or using the information the product provides. This is essential. You’re probably scratching your head and wondering why you’d be mentioning bad points.

To give an honest review of a product you need to be exactly that, honest. People within the internet marketing community are gonna smell BS a mile away, so make sure it’s written from the heart and objective. If you’ve got the ability, put the strengths and weakness of the product in table form and get hold of some gif graphics, ticks and marks out of 5 type of thing. If you’ve got something visual this is definately gonna help.

The third step is to create a review outline.

By review outline I mean the structure of the entire review. This is the single most important thing for you to do. Get this right and there’s some dollars to be had. Important elements of your review are the review title, headline or first paragraph and the conclusion. The title’s meant to grab the reader by the throat and get their attention (similar to the preview of an action movie), they show you all the best bits, leave you with your mouth open in anticpation of what the film’s gonna be like..

The headline or first paragraph is a brief summary of the entire review and usually contains the what, why, and how of the product. It’s generally in the first paragraph that your reader decides to continue reading or not. Finally, the last paragraph is where you show your own conclusion, opinion of the product. Keep this real and non spammy.

The forth step is to actually write your review.

Now you’ve got everything in place this should be easy. You know the product back to front, you’ve got some extra info from the product creator, simply produce a title that grabs the attention. In real terms this should set the tone for the rest of the review and determines your readers’ expectations. The body of your review is where you need to provide specific details, i.e the pros and cons.

I almost forget and this is essential. Try to write a strong close. If there’s a free trial or a no brainer call to action then it doesn’t need to be so strong. If it doesn’t, then I reccomend making the close as strong as possible.

The conclusion would be your closing thoughts about the product and whether you recommend it or not. Believe it or not, the trick is to get the reader to try the product whether you think it’s a good or bad product. I reckon this is where a lot of people go wrong. You still need the reader to use call of action regardless. It is so important that your reader hits that link and goes to the sales page of the product. This is where they will ultimately make there decesion. Your work is done.

If you master the art of the honest review, your readers will take note and listen whether they agree with you or not. This is powerful!

I must admit, I made the cardinal sin of neglecting my blog, my friends, my subscribers, hell, the whole of my Internet business and it’s taught me a huge lesson……..

I have an offline cleaning business which literally just took off. Why?

I started focusing all of my efforts trying to make it a success and in turn started to give my clients the service they deserve and now expect. The problem is, I completely neglected my online business in doing so which was a huge mistake. I even got my eBay store closed down through bad customer service.

What’s The Lesson Learned?

Whether you’ve got an online or offline business, treat it as a business and in turn provide great customer service and value to your client.

This Is What I should Have Done!

1. First all explain to my readers and subscribers what was going on in my offline world. If you be yourself people will understand.

2. Diarise to do a blog post every Sunday or every month (time management). They wouldn’t need to be long blog posts just a little something informative.

3. Keep in touch and keep commenting on blogs that you like to read and share a common interest with.

4. Treat each reader or subscriber like a human being and not just a number or email on a subscriber list.

I’m happy to say that I have a team in place offline now and can now concentrate on providing real value to my subscribers again.

So, if I’ve got any advice to give, when times get hectic offline (the real world) or you’re going through a real rough patch. Try to stay in touch with your readers/subscribers by posting a blog post (if you have blog) about what’s going on. You don’t need to tell them the nitty gritty, just a simple breakdown and they’ll appreciate you for it.

Most importantly BE YOURSELF (sorry to shout . We’re fast becoming used to all the hype, product launch after product launch, and dodgy review after dodgy review. Be yourself and your readers will respect you for it.

Changes I’m Planning On Making!

1. Checking my email twice a day with reference to The 4-Hour work Week: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich. How many times do you check your email, only to find that you’re still making it nice and neat and replying for well over an hour.

2. Treating Internet marketing LIKE A BUSINESS. This means I plan to diariase, set up targets and work on 1 or 2 projects at a time MAX!

3. Use the Ready, Fire, Aim: Zero to $100 Million in No Time Flat approach. The best book I ever purchased. So many of us analyse the hell out of things. Most entrepreneurs/successful business people get idea and make it happen.

4. Start helping more people and giving real value.
